This Friday Jay Reatard is playing at the 12 Galaxies along with King Khan & the BBQ Show - tempting!  Also at the 12 Galaxies on Saturday is Dos which features Mike Watt (Minutemen fame) and Kira (Black Flag fame), both on bass, and that is damn tempting too! 

Why “Elephant Cheese Box”?  Becuase these are random thoughts and ideas and I just wrote out the first thing that popped in to my feeble brain.  Last night I watched one-half of the movie “You Kill Me” with Ben Kingsley and, I have to admit, so far so good.  I was too tired from doing my morning radio show to watch the whole movie.  I’m still tired now - after nine hours of sleep.  But what do you care?  Okay, okay, I’m finished.  It’s safe.

60s Garage/psychedelic. These guys sound like the real deal from the mid-60s, and they’re German (but they sing in English). The album has 10 original songs plus 3 covers: the Birds “No Good Without You Baby” (14), “I’ll Make You Sorry” (11) by the Shadows of Knight and the Paragons “Abba” (2). Fans of 60s psychedelic with dig this. Most of the songs sound like 60s pop bands, 7 sounds like an acid trip, 8 was on their last record.

Ambient/Classical/ Electronic. Icelandic quartet (formerly Amina and Anima), Amiina sounds like a music box - they even play a music box - among their other thrift-store instruments, including wine glasses, bowed saws, antique synthesizers, and the violins, viola, and cello they started out with. They have worked with fellow Icelanders Sigur Rós on several
albums. On Kurr they manage to be quaint and exotic, like a modern vision set in a dusty portrait from the past. The music is gentle, soft, slow and airy.

Punk/Hardcore.  These guys are from Richmond, VA and, in their own words, they inject some applied aggression into their rhythmic crunch. Formed as a temporary project in October 2006, the group recorded its first demo within the month and decided to stay in the game a bit longer. They sound very old school hardcore, the likes of T.S.O.L., Black Flag and Minor Threat and others.
