Hey man, like, it’s cold in my apartment and the Dude ain’t diggin’ it. He seemed pretty happy, however, when I put the heat on. In case you’re wondering, the Dude is my cat. I have to DJ tomorrow - January 1, 2008 - at 6:00 a.m. So I dunno what I’m going to do tonight - New Year’s Eve (a.ka. Amateur Night). If any of my neighbors have a party, I’m hosed for sleep. Things are good.

Ah, the lovely days before Christmas: frantic people scurrying around buying gifts or pulling suitcases on wheels. Rush, run, push, shove, thrash, scream, cry, collapse and rejoice! Praise the Lord for this wonderful holiday - but don’t forget to get a gift for so-and-so or there’ll be cold stares and whispers for years to come.
So, I am skipping Christmas once again (it’s becoming a habit). I just can’t support a consumer holiday that has religious backing. The two should be separate. I don’t need to mention the absurity of Jesus dying on the cross and rushing to Walmart for some great deal.
I’m out.

Yeah, so like I’m in LA, right? And I used to go to Safari Sam’s when it was in Huntington Beach in the 80s, dig? So I went to the latest incarnation of Safari Sam’s last night to see the Knitters (John Doe, Exene, DJ Bonebrake, Dave Alvin and Jonny Ray Bartel) and they were pretty cool.
I have seen the Knitter a couple of times in the last like two or three years, but last night they were fan-freakin’-tastic by comparison. Dave Alvin was particularly great, and funny too. He never said a word, but his performance was quite entertaining.
Perhaps it was the LA crowd and the fact that they are from LA? Who the hell knows. All I know is that they kicked ass.
Yes indeed, I am now in Los Angeles. And it was a pleasant trip getting here too. My friend Ezra gave me a ride to SFO yesterday at about 1:00 p.m. I went through the rather short security line where they made me remove my shoes and all metal objects. It was fast and easy (though I was prepared - 3 oz containers for my shampoo and stuff in a large ziplock bag) and I went right to the gate. Ten minutes later I was boarding an empty plane (I had a row all to myself, dig!) that was fancy and new.
The take off and landing was smooth, although some of the turns the pilot made were queasy-like (perhaps the pilot used to be a Blue Angel?). At one point I was looking out the window and we were facing pretty close to straight down - but only briefly. I’d like to mention that the flight attendants were all foxy ladies and mostly friendly.
Once I was at LAX I walked to the street and caught the LAX Fly Away bus to Union Station. It was a breeze. From there I caught a 704 Metro bus to Sunset and Echo Park Avenue. Then I crossed the street, caught the Dasher Bus to Baxter Street and it was a short (albeit uphill) walk to Flubber’s house. No problems at all.
I forgot my glasses but, what the heck, I’m on vacation.

Today is Friday December 7, 2007. Let’s see, it’s Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, it’s Tom Waits’ birthday - the story is that he was born in a taxi cab in Pomona on Pearl Harbor day - and it’s one day before my freakin’ birthday!!
My friend Jim - whose birthday is December 9 - is having a barbecue on Saturday (my birthday) and I am going to be there.
I woke up early today. My toilet is plugged up. The cat is lazy. That’s all I have to report for now.
