So KUSF turned 31 last Friday night and we celebrated with a soldout show at the Cafe du Nord featuring Wooden Shjips, Citay and Jenny Hoyston (of Erase Errata and Paradise Island). I went to the show to see JennyHoyston and then to the Lucky 13 to DJ from about 11:00 to 12:30. I hate to say this, but I was very disappointed by Jenny Hoyston’s set - at least as much as I saw. She writes great songs, many of which are politically fueled, and puts out solid records in all of her incarnations. I saw her with Erase Errata (opening for Mission of Burma) and she was incredible. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for her whole set because the songs were all sort of singer-sensative songwriter stuff (like an open mic night or something), albeit they were well crafted songs, it was not what I was hoping for. I hope it improved after I left. Don’t get me wrong, I still love her and will continue to buy her albums. I was just disappointed.
