Dec 7

Today is Friday December 7, 2007.  Let’s see, it’s Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, it’s Tom Waits’ birthday - the story is that he was born in a taxi cab in Pomona on Pearl Harbor day - and it’s one day before my freakin’ birthday!!

My friend Jim - whose birthday is December 9 - is having a barbecue on Saturday (my birthday) and I am going to be there.

I woke up early today.  My toilet is plugged up.  The cat is lazy.  That’s all I have to report for now.

So, like I ride the bus every day to work, and more and more I have noticed that young men (mostly white men - like myself - but not exclusively) take the seats that become available (even the ones that are supposed to be reserved for handicapped and eldery people) before anyone else has a chance (and then they sit there smuggly).  Now, perhaps it’s just me, but I was raised to step aside from those seats and allow people who need them to sit (i.e. older people, sickly people, pregnant women, people with lot’s of bags, etc.).  Beyond that, I will always let a woman sit before I will.  I mean, hey, it’s the way it should be right?  Am I old fashioned?  Jeez.

I woke up early this morning because I had my alarm set (by accident) for 4:05 a.m. So I tried to go back to sleep, but it was light, and I had several strange dreams. I can only remember this one:

I was down at the Court of Appeal on the request of my boss, but in the dream I was unable to recall what I needed to do there. I grabbed my cell phone and tried to call the office but I kept getting wrong numbers of people who wanted to talk to me, even though I had the wrong number. I used the phone book in my phone, but it still didn’t work. It was quite frustrating.

Meanwhile, there were all these people wearing costumes walking around the hallways and rooms of the court. One was dressed as the Statue of Liberty, and others had colorful and elaborate outfits, most of which were bulky and pointy.

I kept thinking, “They’ll never believe I’ve been down here all this time.” I was sure that I was going to get reprimanded for wasting time.

Finally I got through to my office and the guy who answers the phone says something unusual (I can’t remember exactly what, but it was not what he’s supposed to say). So I said, “That’s no way to answer the phone, put Robin on.” Then I dropped the phone and when I picked it up I could hear Robin’s voice and she was saying, “It’s not a head without hair.” So I said, “It’s not hair without dandruff.”

That was my dream.

It’s an “All Consume” weekend here in the USA.  Forget about everything but “feeding” and family.  Well, I don’t have much of a family and I don’t care for shopping or stuffing my “pie-hole” with starchy food, so I am just enjoying the four-day weekend.

I am, however, going over to Ezra’s house for a meal of turkey and whatnot, but we will not be remembering the Pilgrims or giving any historical “thanks.”  I don’t really know why we are even partaking in this ridiculous event, but there it is.  I have missed more Thanksgiving dinners than anyone I know, so I must be ahead of the game (that I am playing in my mind).

I’m digging KUSF this morning.  Lenode played some ripping tunes before 9:00 (Tarantism and OM, among others) and DJ Push is playing some great stuff right now (Rebuilding the Rights of Statues, and earlier he played Opium Jukebox and Jimmy Hendrix).

Okay, I’m out.  Later.

I will be DJing this evening from 6-7:30 pm at the Knockout for a themed event entitled, “Understanding Satan.”  If you understand Satan, don’t understand Satan or have strong opinions (one way or another) about Satan, then you should stop by.  It’s happy hour so the drinks will be flowing and the music, well…the Devil’s music, of course. The Knockout is located at 3223 Mission Street (where Valencia meets Mission).  Stereo Steve will be spinning from 7:30 to 9:00 as well.  It’s the two Steves.

Thank you for your support.

I saw a freaky movie last night at Nina’s called “Room 1408.” It was based on a Stephen King book (?) and starred John Cusack. The film was pretty good, filled with strange imagery and scary scenes, but the dreams I had as a result of watching it (I think they were caused by the movie) were even freakier. I kept seeing old friends in the dreams - I can’t remember all the details. I saw my friend Mike from NY and he was in a room holding a baseball glove and I asked him if he wanted to play (becuase I recently bought a glove) and he pointed to a TV screen and said he was watching the game. Then I saw this guy Rob that I haven’t seen in a long time and he was asking me about musical instruments and we were going through these intricate machines that, in retrospect, don’t seem like instruments at all. Then I saw some other people I know and they were telling a story, but also acting it out as they told it - and it was bizarre.

So, check out that film, I guess.

dudeb.JPGdudeb.JPGMy cat (The Dude) puked this morning all over my desk, my cel phone and the window.  I think I made his breakfast too hot.  This whole “breakfast” thing requires some explanation:  you see, The Dude has a urinary tract problem and he has to have a lot of liquids.  The vet suggested that I feed him special food (Wellness, or Science Diet) and mix it in warm water (we call it “soup dude jour”).  Well, this morning I put a bit too much hot water in his food and he was so desperate to eat, I gave it to him…and then he gave me a gift in return.

This Friday Jay Reatard is playing at the 12 Galaxies along with King Khan & the BBQ Show - tempting!  Also at the 12 Galaxies on Saturday is Dos which features Mike Watt (Minutemen fame) and Kira (Black Flag fame), both on bass, and that is damn tempting too!

Why “Elephant Cheese Box”?  Becuase these are random thoughts and ideas and I just wrote out the first thing that popped in to my feeble brain.  Last night I watched one-half of the movie “You Kill Me” with Ben Kingsley and, I have to admit, so far so good.  I was too tired from doing my morning radio show to watch the whole movie.  I’m still tired now - after nine hours of sleep.  But what do you care?  Okay, okay, I’m finished.  It’s safe.
