Hey, come out and party with KUSF in Exile tonight (3/21) at the Hemlock Tavern for the KUSF in Exile Stream Launch Party.  There will be DJs (myself included) and lots of fun.  No cover.  Come out and support.  Thanks!

There are rules, even to the Left of the Dial.

Why fight to keep KUSF 90.3 FM on the air in San Francisco?

Sure, USF has the right to sell their own property, the issue is removing an irreplaceable public asset from San Francisco. Radio is a limited public commodity. Terrestrial FM licenses rarely come up for sale — and if we don’t make ourselves heard in this effort, San Francisco will lose.

In addition to the music we love, KUSF 90.3 FM hosts news and education shows in a dozen languages. Many of us miss hearing our favorite songs, but what about people dependent on getting their nightly news in Cantonese on Chinese Star Radio each weeknight at 6pm — or from the Disability & Senior News Report, Sundays at 12:30? These are  things the FCC considers.

Come join the KUSF in Exile team for another Save KUSF event tonight at the Redvic Movie House.  It’s a midnight movie (that may or may not have the Ramones in it) and a Ramones look-a-like contest with Jet as one of the judges.  It should be a wild and wonderful time.  And it’s for a good cause.  That’s the Redvic tonight at 11:59pm.  I hope to see you there!

The Twisted Roots is the 1984 lineup after w/ Paul Roessler (Screamers, 45 Grave, DC3), Dez Cadena (Black Flag, Redd Kross, DC3, Carnage Asada, Misfits), Mikey Borens (Consumers, 45 Grave), Kurt Markhem (Overkill, DC3), and Maggie Ehrig.  Although Kira is Paul Roessler’s sister, she is not in this lineup.

Mar 7

Come out to the 9th Street Independent Film Center this Wednesday (3/9/11) for a great punk rock movie: A History Lesson Part 1, which features the Minutemen, Redd Kross, Meat Puppets and Twisted Roots (Kira and Pat Smear).  There will also be a punk rock bake sale - I am making my famous “vegan” banana bread (made with real vegans!)(just kidding).  It’ll be a rollicking good time.  The location is 145 9th Street and the movie starts at 7:00.  I hope to see you there.

But we still need to raise money for the attorneys.  We filed the Petition to Deny, but (as always) there are more pleadings, more attachments and more more more.  If you know anyone who can help, or if you can donate, please visit www.savekusf.org and help us out.

On another note, we are attempting to do an on-line station in the interim.  Our esteemed friends at WFMU have offered us the use of their stream for 3-4 months.  We are currently looking for a place to house the equipment so we can get it going.  Any suggestions would be appreciated (stevil@djstevil.com).

Thanks and happy days to you all!

The Resolution to stop the sale of KUSF was passed today by the Board of Supervisors of San Francisco, 8 votes to 3.  To be honest, I am not exactly sure that the Resolution will actually stop the sale.  It will, however, show USF just how important KUSF is to the community of San Francisco and thus shed more (deserved) bad light on the sale and the underhanded manner in which they went about doing it.  The first step has been achieved.  Thanks for all your support.

The Board of Supervisors will vote today on the Resolution to stop the sale of KUSF.  There is a rally at 1:00 outside and then we go inside to have a chance to speak before they vote.  There will be bands (Ty Segal, for one), speakers and like-minded music lovers.  I hope to see you all out there.  Support local radio before it all disappears!
